I don't know where Chicago would be without the Center for Labor and Community Research.
Eric BjerstedtSeptember 10th, 2009
With all the talk about green jobs and new high-tech products, there is precious little being done to address the underlying problems in America's manufacturing economy. CLCR is on the leading edge of the charge to revitalize our economy and environment through high-tech manufacturing.

I have worked with CLCR on a number of initiatives and feel that the projects that come out of this organization encourage economic development and help the lives of many middle class families.
Gwyneth KramSeptember 10th, 2009
I work for a school started by CLCR- It's simply amazing!
Michael SchlesingerSeptember 10th, 2009
Creative and visionary are the best words to describe CLCR. We're fortunate to have CLCR as a resource.
John ArmendarizSeptember 10th, 2009
All doors thru CMRC programs are being opened in society's need to overcome a rust belt future in manufacturing. The fearful thought of local industry and manufacturing's concern of a "Brain Drain" will be put to rest by having the metropolitan area's youth embracing the CMRC high tech training as well as their employment helping to stimulate the local economy.

Dave KraftSeptember 10th, 2009
In a job market and economy turned topsy-turvy, CLCR is a roadmap for the green economy of the future. Dan and his team are a great asset to the City; and they deserve its support and thanks.

Great work, combing the most important issues of our day.
Ronnie VirissimoSeptember 10th, 2009
CLCR is leading our economy by giving our economy the tools to stay ahead of the global curve with a rejuvenated manufacturing sector and a leading and innovative labor force that will keep our economy competitive into the future. Keep up the great work!

The right analysis that not only points the way out of the current crisis, but to put Chicago, and the planet, on a foundation for sustainable development into the 21st century. This is not a vision of business versus labor, but of what kind of economy will produce wealth, security, strong communities and repair our planet: it's a win win for all stakeholders on the high road!
Angela JustSeptember 10th, 2009
What could be a more timely initiative for our economy? This is one of the bright spots that can help turn things around!
AndronikeSeptember 10th, 2009
I work for a school started by this organization, and they extremely passionate about social change and education. What an amazing combination!
William GrahamSeptember 10th, 2009
I worked with Dan Swinney and CLCR, for five years seeking funding to sustain the dream. Dan has had to be extremely resourceful to keep the dream alive, surviving and then growing the CMRC. If I can help you identify and gain commitment for additional resources to grow your donor and investor base, I am happy to help. Great work Dan!
Suzanne C KeersSeptember 10th, 2009
If you have not made a visit to Austin Polytechnical Academy, it is well worth the trip. The vision of CLCR and the CMRC have created a school that looks to create a long term, "high road" solution to local economic development in Chicago.
barbara hirschfeldSeptember 11th, 2009
Tying together high school education and skilled job training is in itself a high merit. Creating societal leaders in the process and working to open the door to conscionable success and life long learning is exemplary. CLCR should be acknowledged for the work it does.
Helen C GagelSeptember 11th, 2009
CLCR has provided leadership and inspiration to the many disparate entities that make up Chicago's manufacturing community. By taking on the challenge of educating the future manufacturing workforce, CLCR is making an enduring contribution to our economy and quality of life.
Robert ArmendarizSeptember 11th, 2009
The CLCR aids Chicago on so many levels. Not only does it build effective manufacturing and educational infrastructures, but it provides sociology majors the rare opportunity to do hands on labor reseach, and is something social science majors would greately appreciate for furthering their own education. The CLCR gives entry level interns research tasks and responsibilites that is rarely matched in surrounding chicago organizations and thus allows students to directly contribute to better understanding the changing labor market in Chicago.

CLCR deserves this award, without question!
Leni MatthewsSeptember 13th, 2009
CLCR works hard to help motivate the students at APA.
Valerie F. LeonardSeptember 14th, 2009
CLCR has an undying commitment, not only to manufacturing, but to ensure that workers who are low income, or need re-tooling get the training they need to survive in our global economy. Dan Swinney has devoted his life to the cause, and his daughter Erica is picking up the mantle. I wish CLCR and APA the best of luck in everything they do.
Susan ChandlerSeptember 14th, 2009
I've admired Dan Swinney's work for 43 years now--it just keeps getting better. I hope to be able to visit Austin Polytech soon. Bravo, CLCR.
Patricia AbramsSeptember 14th, 2009
I have known Dan Swinney for many years dating back to when I was with the Center for Neighborhood T echnology. I was pleased to reconnect with him during our traditional African American Breakfast this year for a discussion on the Future of Bronzeville and the Green Economy. I applaud the work he is doing at the CLCR and the Austin Poloytechnical Academy.

Accolades to the CMRC for working so diligently to bring the worlds of work and education together. Their efforts well prepare our students with the skills necessary to fulfill the jobs of the future while positioning our state to compete in the global economy.

Dan Swinney and those working with him are helping usher in a new age of manufacturing here, creating high-tech items like wind turbines to reduce the carbon footprint while stimulating the local economy.

John D. TrutySeptember 14th, 2009
What CLCR and Dan have helped create is a wonderful example of community/business/government cooperation. Maybe Washington should take more serious notice....
Jeffrey V GerhardtSeptember 14th, 2009
I have been involved on the fringes with one of CLCR's projects, the Austin Polytech Academy. I think what they are trying to do is a formula for moving the west side of Chicago forward and giving hope to youth. Dan & the entire CLCR team should be supported.
Lucy AscoliSeptember 14th, 2009
