Advanced Diamond Technologies, Inc.
Advanced Diamond Technology rearranges the carbon atoms found in natural gas in order to form smooth diamond films. Before ADT came up with this technology, diamond films were rough and suitable only for abrasive applications such as cutting tools. Now, the smooth ADT films can be used to make diamond-coated silicon wafers that can be used for MEMS (microscopic electro-mechanical systems) and circuit applications. The unique properties of diamond along with the fine and consistent qualities of UNCD allow for new applications of diamond. The value provided by diamond compared with other materials is in the functional properties. It allows higher-performance technology, whether it be in industrial pumps or resonators for telecommunications devices. Rather than offering cost savings to the customer, ADT offers an advantage in terms of sheer technological superiority.

Working with man-made diamond materials has been the focus of a lot of media attention lately, including a NOVA special on PBS. It's good to see a Chicago-based company involved in developing this cutting-edge technology for use in so many areas of life.
