Market Impact

Market impact data from this section is extremely important in the judging process. Innovation is distinguished from invention by its acceptance in the market place. A well-supported answer could include, but is not limited to the following: Number of units sold, transactions, or users; Revenue and growth; Cost reduction or savings; Price-point; Any other measurement or impact.The judges highly value revenue, as well as numbers of units sold, customers, or users, so we encourage you to include that information below.

Up-and-Comer Application

Companies with less than $1 million in revenue over the lifetime of the company are also eligible to apply for the Up-and-Comer Award. The Up-and-Comer Award recognizes companies with great potential that have not yet experienced significant growth.


Social Innovation Award

The Social Innovation Award recognizes an innovation that brings positive impact to the community. These innovations can be for-profit or not-for-profit, but must demonstrate impact through advancing a social cause.


Collaboration Award

New this year, the Collaboration Award will recognize an innovation that was created through some type of partnership between a large and small firm (i.e. joint venture, licensing technology, etc.). It is designed to celebrate the importance of connecting the corporate and start-up communities in the Chicago region.

Eligibility

To be eligible for a Chicago Innovation Award, the product, service, or company nominated must be:

  • Introduced within the past 3 years.
  • Headquartered in the greater Chicago region, including the northern half of Illinois, southern Wisconsin, and northwest Indiana.

Criteria

The judging committee looks at the following criteria:

  • Did the product/service meet an unmet need?
  • How unique is the product/service?
  • What new value has been created for the end-user?
  • Has the product/service created a "me-too" response from imitators?
  • What financial evidence or market acceptance information does the product/service have to support it?
  • What is its quantifiable evidence of success?
